London rap artists, Little Simz and Stormzy, have four nominations each in this year’s UK Music of Black Origin Awards.

Both have been nominated for best album of the year – Stormzy’s album, This Is What I Mean, and Little Simz’s album, No Thank You.

Simz, whose real name is Simbiatu Abisola Abiola Ajikawo,  is also up for best female act, best hip hop act and video of the year for her music video, Gorilla.

Likewise, Stormzy, originally Michael Ebenazer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Junior, is nominated for best male act and video of the year for the song Mel Made Me Do It.

He is also nominated in the song of the year category, for his 2022 release Hide & Seek.

Little Simz was born and raise in Islington, and Stormzy in Croydon.

Little Simz was previously the joint winner in the 2022 best album category for Sometimes I Might Be Introvert. She shared the win with Knucks’ album Alpha Place.

Other nominees include PinkPantheress for best female artist, and Central Cee for song of the year. Rayes’ album My 21st Century Blues, has also been nominated.

Best of Black Music and Culture

The Music of Black Origin Awards celebrates the best of black music and culture.

It first began in 1996. 2023 will mark its 26th year.
