Jimmy McDonagh from Uxbridge appeared at the Old Bailey on video call from HMP Wormwood Scrubs.
Mr McDonagh is charged with the death of 44-year-old John Cavanagh.

The court heard how Mr McDonagh allegedly hit Mr Cavanagh on the side of the head.
Police and the London Ambulance service were called after reports of an assault on March 4.
Mr Cavanagh died in hospital in the early hours of March 5.
Mr McDonagh was arrested later that day.
The court also heard that the two were known to each other.
The Metropolitan Police have said that a special post-mortem examination confirmed that the cause of death was a head injury.
Mr McDonagh will appear at the Old Bailey on the May 28 for a plea and trial hearing.
