Camden Market will come alive this Saturday with Chinese New Year celebrations. Among the free events planned are a lion dance parade, a performance from Guizhou Acrobatic Troupe and craft workshops.

This will be the first time Chinese New Year celebrations will be organised in Camden Market.
The events are being organised by LabTech Group, who own Hawley Wharf, Stables Market and Camden Lock Market, in partnership with local community groups.

Celebrations will kick off at 1pm with a ‘Lion Dance’ parade through Camden Market finishing at Market Place.
Visitors can learn calligraphy, woodblock printing and fan making in workshops running from 1pm until 4pm.
There will also be Sichuan operas, Shaolin Kung Fu and traditional folk music to entertain visitors and immerse them in Chinese culture.
These events will be welcoming in the Year of the Snake, also referred to as the Lunar New Year, the Spring Festival, Tet, and Seollal.
It is celebrated in numerous countries across South Asia, including Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, and the Philippines, as well as by many diaspora communities worldwide.

Whilst London’s large diasporas from these cultures will surely make up a significant proportion of the crowds, everyone is welcome.
