Local Council produced newspaper, Hackney Today, is being threatened by the Government to be shut down.

The fortnightly paper is not in line with current regulations that state a local publication should only be issued quarterly.

Hackney Council argue that this will cost an extra £100,000 per year due to lack of advertising that they claim is needed.

The Government put these rules into place on the grounds of protecting original and unbiased journalism which they feel the Council does not address.

The Council have been given to the end of the month to respond to the Government, after ignoring letters dating back to April 2014.
