The charity Ethical Trading Initiative is hosting a meeting on how to tackle LGBT workers’ discriminations.

For the last day of LGBT awareness month, a meeting is taking place in Clerkenwell to make companies, trade unions and LGBT activists discuss about discriminations in the workplace.

According to a PEW survey, 21% of LGBT workers report that they have been discriminated against hiring, promotions and pay.

“When LGBT workers self-organise they are more empowered and more powerful” said Huma Munshi from the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

According to the Ethical Trading Initiative, 20% of LGBT workers have faced bullying while only 1 in 8 feel confident enough to report it.

LGBT rights campaigner Peter Tatchell expressed confidence that despite notable exceptions in Africa, the trend is towards greater acceptance globally.
