Both sides have never met but FA Women’s Super League top ranked are heading to France in a confident way. They are currently 7 points ahead from 3rd ranked Arsenal with no defeat behind them.
England Anita Asante will miss this important fixture and the rest of the season due to picking up an unfortunate long term injury during an International duty earlier this month.
Asante told City News she thinks her side is ‘fortunate to have a squad with a lot of quality and depth who will hopefully put Chelsea in good sted for Montpellier’. The fact that her team is not used to travel for a first-leg game does not scare them as she said it should ‘give us the confidence to go and play our game knowing we get to host the return leg in our familiar setting’.
Montpellier manager Jean-Louis Saez said ‘it is a massive fixture. Chelsea is a great club and a name well-known to the public. Even though it is a bit frustrating to host them for the first-leg, I hope that such a big game will allow us to attract lots of people to the stadium and have a beautiful celebration with our public’.
The quarter-final second leg will be played in London on the 28th of March at 7.05pm.
