It has been announced that Farringdon and Oxford Street have some of London’s worst pollution, but this may soon change. AirLabs, a Piccadilly-based start-up, has invented filters for tube stations and bus stops.
The technology costs around £4000 and will work best in high-density areas. Sophie Power, AirLabs chief executive, said “Our devices are low energy and low maintenance, so well-suited to city infrastructure.”
It is hoped that the initiative will help Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, to achieve his greener-city manifesto pledge. With air pollution currently claiming over 9,000 lives a year in the capital, the devices can’t come soon enough.
