City News has learnt that most business owners have yet to receive financial compensation – with some still unable to reopen as a result.
In a Statement for CityNews, Thames Water said:
“We treat each customer individually and agree an individual plan tailored to them. Some businesses will need financial support and our insurers will provide this. It is their choice to use their own private insurance or ours.
We talk to the customer and look at their books to understand their overheads and what profits they make and then make appropriate interim payments. This support will go on until they can start trading again.”
Despite these challenges, some businesses have been able to get back business. One independent store, plans to reopen tomorrow morning.
