City Investigates – In Your Head: The connection between Mind-Body

Psychophysiological Disorders (PPD) is the clinical term for mind-body symptoms.

PPDs are physical conditions and pain symptoms in the body that develop in response to stress, trauma and other psychological factors. These mind-body symptoms can affect almost any structure, organ system or region of the body.

NHS stats show that “medically unexplained symptoms” account for 45% of all GP appointments and new visits to hospital clinics. The annual cost to the UK economy is over 14 billion pounds in lost productivity and decreased quality of life.
