Girls who (don’t) eat: Female athletes and body image issues
Female athletes increasingly share their struggles with body image issues and their mental health but not enough is being done by sports organisations to support them, City Investigates found out.
Body image issues include anything from not feeling confident in your body, thinking you don’t look like an attractive female and modifying your diet because of it.
In the case of athletes, those struggling with body image issues can feel like they don’t belong to the group of athletes because of their different body type. They can also be more interested in what their body looks like instead of what it can do, which can have an impact on their sporting performance.
