Celebrations continue in Haringey today with a Reminiscence Cafe at Bruce Castle.

The event focuses on the history of Carnival, and the experiences that people have had.

The founder of the event, Deborah Hedgecock, encourages attendees to bring stories and pictures of their memories, costumes, and floats.

The first Carnival in Haringey flourished before the First World War, in aid of the Prince of Wales hospital.

Since then, Carnival has blossomed in many boroughs, with the Notting Hill Carnival attracting international crowds.

Haringey Council has been celebrating Black History Month throughout October with a number of events. Activities include live singing, motivational speakers, a selection of African and Caribbean food, arts and crafts, and dancing.

The event at Bruce Castle runs today 2 – 4pm.
