Animal rights campaigners protest the use of fur during London Fashion Week events

City News spoke to animal rights activist Sian Whitehead, who joined the protests this year.
‘The conditions animals are kept in are absolutely terrible,’ she said.
Ms Whitehead campaigned for three days against London Fashion Week and believes that the London Fashion Week Festival, the more democratised version of fashion week, should make a stand against the use of real fur.
‘They should, because most consumers disagree with it,’ she said.
Some models have also expressed that they are uncomfortable when it comes to wearing fur.
Phillip Kesselev was a catwalk model in high fashion for six years.
‘When I did London Fashion Week, I didn’t really have a choice whether to wear fur or not because it wasn’t my job. But personally, I don’t agree with the use of fur,’ Mr Kesselev told City News.
London Fashion Week is an annual major fashion event, involving models, designers and media professionals.
Almost every year, animal cruelty has been a topic of conversation, and most notably, the use of fur.
In the 90s, PETA protesters covered models who wore fur in red paint, as they walked down the catwalk.
While London Fashion Week ended a few days ago, the London Fashion Week Festival runs between February 22-25.
The festival is open to the public, and a number of events are free.
