Eight people were murdered during the June 2017 attack at London Bridge and Borough Market.
The first person stabbed in the London Bridge attack, Richard Livett, has described how he came “nose to nose” with Khuram Butt.
Butt shouted “Allahu Akbar” in his face before pushing a knife into his back.
The victim, who gave evidence today at the inquest into the eight people murdered during the June 2017 attack, spoke of how he was heading home after an evening out on the South Bank.
They then decided to stop at Barrowboy and Banker pub in London Bridge for another drink.
According to mr Livett, the pub was too full so they decided not to go inside. As they walked past, they began to hear shouts.
He told an inquest he went to check on the occupants.
But in a “split second”, his attacker’s face was “an inch or so off”, he said.
“I felt what I thought initially was a punch in the back, which turned out to be him flailing his arm around the back of me and stabbing me,”
After looking at photographs, he said he could identify the man as Khuram Butt, one of the three attackers.
Mr Livett also described how he slumped on the ground for a few seconds before deciding to get up and move away.
“It was chaos all around. I was aware of screaming and shouting and people around me”.
