Catharine Knowles is a local shop owner petitioning for the government to re-consider their agenda of increasing business rates.
Since opening her shop two years ago, her rates have nearly tripled.
Current rates are set to increase this upcoming April, up to 46% for some businesses.
Hackney Council has announced that 262 local businesses will see an increase of roughly £10,000 and £25,000 in their bills.
Additionally, more than 145 other traders will be facing a hike £25,000 and £50,000.
Lastly, it is estimated that 34 are set for a whopping increase of over £100,000.
The petition is set to be delivered to Downing Street by the end of the week and has already been signed by nearly 5,000 people. Campaigners are hoping for the total to climb to 10,000 by Friday.
