A homeless refugee from Lebanon has been sentenced to two years in prison for robbing two tourists in Central London.

26-year-old Hassan Abbas wept as the judge gave his vedict at Southwark Crown Court.

CCTV footage captured the moment a group of men “boxed in” in the victims and stripped them of their belongings.

These included a £600 Canada Goose jacket and some hotel keys.

The footage shown in court sees Abbas on his bicycle being given the stolen items and riding away with them.

The judge said that although the defendant was “tempted into crime because he didn’t have the right to work in the UK, his previous caution for theft combined with this gang robbery means that now he has to face the consequences.”
