The jury took less than an hour to unanimously find 50-year-old Michael Drudy guilty of the offence.
Drury was discovered under the influence of alcohol at a bus stop on Adelaide Road near Camden Market on the evening of 9 May 2019, where he had a kitchen knife concealed under his waistband.
The defendant claimed that he found the knife by a nearby convenience store and picked it up with the intention of throwing it into Regent’s Canal.
Recent legislation passed through parliament means that the offence should carry a mandatory sentence of at least six months but the judge may opt to impose a more stringent punishment.
