Haringey Council has begun a crackdown on fly-tippers in the borough, starting with a fine hike. The area has struggled with rubbish recently, with residents issuing complaints about various areas including Finsbury and Wolves Lane.

A number of drivers have already been prosecuted, and today the council announced they have confronted one driver due to rubbish that was scattered down Fawcett Court.

Authorities released a statement over twitter saying ‘this week we issued the 1st £400 fixed penalty notice to a driver who dumped old furniture on Millicent Fawcett Ct, Tottenham, N17. We won’t tolerate fly-tipping on our streets.’

The rise from £80 to £400 is believed to be the first of a number of steps Haringey Council will be taking over the coming week to address the issue.
