Their hope is that London motorists will be encouraged to invest in more environmentally friendly vehicles.

The move hopes to improve pollution levels in and attempt to detoxify the heavily-polluted air in Shoreditch.

Hackney Council has allocated around £1 million from City Hall and Transport for London.

The council have said that the money will be used to create “electric streets”, which will be home to a number of electric car charging and parking points.

This is part of a wider plan to create what has been called a “neighbourhood of the future” which will utilise green technology.
