Three London boroughs on the fringes of the City have received £1.2 million in funding to pay for an electric vehicle only road scheme.
The money was provided by TfL as part of a wider fund to improve air quality in pollution black spots such as the City of London, Heathrow and busy high streets. The funding for Hackney and Islington will pay for the changes needed to make individual streets accessible for electric vehicles only.
This will include charging points and dedicated parking spaces with a complete ban on traditional cars.
The news comes in the midst of a pollution black alert, which means that the air over London is holding extremely high levels of pollutants.
