The Clerkenwell pub Sekforde Arms will be ready to welcome patrons again in June.
The 175 year old pub’s neighbouring residents had feared it would be turned into luxury flats after its doors closed in 2015.
Sekforde owner David Lonsdale says profits will help fund a new scholarship scheme for Islington and Camden. Mr Lonsdale is in the process of setting up an educational charity trust, which will award five £10,000 scholarships in September to students who live or study in either borough.
Mr Lonsdale’s plans were inspired by bis grandmother, who came from a poor background but became a successful scientist thanks to a scholarship to a London university.
