Police have made 12 arrests today as part of an intelligence-led operation aimed at combating moped enabled crime.
Operation Vocare was launched in September 2016 and covers north London boroughs. This morning; 15 search warrants were executed in various boroughs including Camden, Hackney, Haringey and Islington with the suspects being arrested for offences including conspiracy to rob.
The Met’s Taskforce who carry out rapid entries were part of the 100 officers deployed to carry out the operation.
Chief Superintendent Simon Laurence, borough commander for Hackney, said: “We are committed to the detection, disruption, arrest and prosecution of those involved in violent robberies and aggravated burglaries.
“The use of mopeds, often stolen, in the course of criminal offences is a common tactic used by thieves and organised criminal networks in London and offences range from commercial burglaries to personal robberies, some of the offences have been violent in nature.
“The continual, concerted operations by the Met will continue using all possible tactics to target those who commit these offences.”
