So what is shared ownership? Well rather than have to pay a deposit and then a mortgage on a whole flat, you might only buy, say a quarter [cut cake]. That means that you’d be paying rent on the remaining three quarters. You need less money up front, but with rents in the capital so high it can still require a high income.
