The trial into the death, last September, of Hackney resident Vladir Pereira Olivio continued today after a period of recess at the Old Bailey.
Jose Santana Benevides, twenty-three, is accused of murdering his housemate Mr Olivio, forty-four, after an altercation over laundry left on the floor on 5th September 2016.
The two resided on 90 Pellet Grove in Wood Green. Mr Benevides argues he acted in self-defence after Mr Olivio attacked him after an argument about Mr Olivio’s laundry being left on the floor.
The court heard the testimony of Mr Olivio’s wife Evondo Suza Olivio. She said that Mr Olivio liked things to be tidy and that he had previously used Mr Benevides as a translator in their ten person multinational house in Hackney.
Mr Olivio died having been stabbed eleven times to the neck and chest with a Japanese kitchen knife. The defendant looked visibly upset, wiping tears from his face as the story was retold.
The court heard that Mr Olivio kicked down Mr Benevides’ door, having been told by the landlord him and his wife were going to be evicted after their argument. An altercation then took place, before Mr Olivio left the bedroom covered in blood and said to his wife, “stop, enough, its finished.” His final words to his wife were “little girl, call Brazil because I’m dying.”
The trial continues.
