Despite residents now being able to enjoy an easier commute, the damage caused by the flood is far from over. Locals and businesses are still suffering.
Artist and Islington resident Cressida Bell is a victim of the flooding. The damage to her Angel home took roughly 7 months to repair.
She told City News her experience of the event. On the 5th December 2016 she was woken up at 6am and told to evacuate her home. After nearly a year, Cressida is sad to say “people are still out of their homes.”
Thames Water have spent around £5 million installing new water pipes and made the following statement:
“We’re in regular contact with residents and business owners and have met with them a number of times. We’re being transparent with each of them and are treating their situations individually as each case is different it isn’t appropriate to tae a one size fits all approach.”
It is estimated Islington residents, in the past 5 years, have paid over £180 million in water bills.
