A Sikh British citizen, Jagtar Singh Johal, was arrested in India on 4 November and has been in custody ever since without an official charge.
MP Docherty-Hughes requested to be advised on how he can best work with the Prime Minister’s office to assist Johal and his family. He also mentioned the torture allegations put forward by Johal’s lawyers.
Johal has told his lawyers that he is being tortured with “body separation techniques and electrocution to body parts”.
Today, as a part of the #FreeJaggiNow campaign, Sikhs gathered in the UK Parliament to lobby for MP support.

In response, Foreign Minister Rory Stewart assured him that Johal’s case was taken very seriously, and that they have been able to have a meeting with Johal.
Foreign Minister Stewart added: “It is offensive to the British government and we will work very closely to investigate and of course we’ll take extreme action if a British citizen is being tortured.”
