Although the awards are open to the whole of the UK, there are three categories which are specifically targeted for London depots, and these have been run in conjunction with Transport for London.
The boroughs of Tottenham and Enfield have done particularly well, managing to scoop up nominations for both ‘Best London Driver’ and the ‘Unsung Hero Award’.
Clement, a driver from Enfield is one of the finalists nominated in the ‘Best London Driver Category’. He was nominated by his manager after he received a record breaking number of commendations from the public. Many of his customers have praised him for his professional and polite demeanour and his infectious smile.
The ‘Unsung Hero Award’ recognises individuals who work behind the scenes.
Chris Leonti was also nominated by his manager. He has worked in the garage for over 40 years and is in charge of 220 buses. Chris is often the first to offer a loan of buses from his existing fleet to assist colleagues at other garages.
Chris said “It’s nice to see it’s actually been recognised, it was a good feeling, I feel very chuffed”.
The results of the awards will be up on the UK Bus Awards website by 5:00 p.m. today.
