Edlir Kola, 45,  threatened to kill his spouse Julietta Kola whilst raising a knife to her, before pushing her in to a bin. The police were alerted by the couple’s sixteen-year-old daughter, Ciara Kola.

The court also heard a tearful Mrs Kola give evidence of an incident in June.

Mr Kola who is originally from Albania had previously admitted to police that he was a ‘highly jealous husband’, and followed his wife to her work at a Spanish restaurant.

After seeing Julietta say goodbye to a colleague’s husband, Mr Kola confronted her. He then punched her so hard that her ribs broke, which left her bed-bound for two weeks.

The family had been living in horrendous conditions in Enfield, with one bedroom shared between the couple and five children.

However, District Judge Williams stated in court that this was no excuse for the level of violence shown.

The Judge described it as ‘a very sad situation’, but said that ‘no daughter should have to contact the police about her father harming her mother.’

Mr Kola is due to be sentenced in 3 weeks at Highbury Magistrates Court.
