Today at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court, Mr Jake Lake, a young British man, was charged with damage without lawful excuse.
On 12th November at three in the morning, the police arrested Mr Lake after finding him graffitiing on public buildings in Islington.
The prosecution highlighted that the two accounts of damage occurred under the influence of alcohol. But stated it was only a small amount of graffiti.
Miss Smith, the defence advocate, indicated that Mr Lake was extremely remorseful. She emphasised his good character as a student of SOAS University who volunteers three times a week with charities that support the young and vulnerable.
Mr Lake pleaded guilty to the charge of damage without lawful excuse. However, due to his good character laid out by the defence, the magistrates decided his conviction would not be on his criminal record.
He does still have to pay a fine of £200 to the court on a £10 fortnightly basis.
