Her Majesty attended a service at St Mary’s Church, Islington, to celebrate 150 years of a north London Christian charity, Scripture Union.
The charity works to support children through life’s challenges by encouraging them to explore the difference Jesus can have to their lives. St Mary’s uses Scriptures Union material in many of its youth groups.
Royal Visit
The Queen arrived at the church on Upper Street at 3pm.
Crowds of Islington locals braved the cold to catch a glimpse of their Queen as she arrived. Her majesty emerged from the car resplendent in her trade-mark matching hat and coat. This time in a festive pink hue.
She was greeted by the National Director of Scripture Union, the Rev. Tim Hastie-Smith and Rev. Simon Harvey, the Vicar of St Mary’s Church. After a brief pause for photographs she moved inside to enjoy the service.
Supporters remained outside, enjoying the excited atmosphere, until the Queen emerged just over an hour later. The crowds cheered as she got back into her car and drove away.
