Tower Hamlets Council are teaming up with local medical experts to promote the e-cigarette as an alternative to normal cigarettes.

The number of people turning to e-cigarettes, or ‘vaping’, has increased rapidly in recent years.

Now, Council officials are hoping that they can use the trend to help smokers quit for good.

A free drop in session at the Health and Lifestyle Research Unit  today aims to show smokers the alternatives available to them.

They say that switching from smoking to e-cigarette use reduced the risks of smoking by at least 95%.

The scheme, backed by local medical professionals and MPs, aims to reduce the smoking rate in adults, currently at 18% in the borough.
