Around 170,000 residents will be owed millions of pounds in compensation after over charging of their water bills has been unearthed by a landmark legal ruling.
Enfield are alongside 7 other councils that said they made 33 million pounds from water deals across a 6 year period. But they are the only one to set aside funds for tenant repayments.
Litigation management limited are fighting to expose the scale of these water deals.
Today they said that the amount put aside is insufficient and that the council can not be trusted to issue full compensation.
Enfield council respond
“Following the clarification to councils regarding how local authorities should act with the collection of water rates on behalf of utility companies, Enfield Council has changed its policies to ensure they are fully compliant with the Southwark ruling.
The clarification provided by the ruling removes considerable ambiguity from this area which we welcome and we are fully compliant with the new expectations placed on Councils.”
