Police corner off Mandeville street after a man is shot by armed police

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched a investigation after a man in his twenties was shot by the police in Hackney late last night.

At 22:50 last night the police responded to a call following reports of an armed robbery at an address in Mandeville Street Clapton.

A police firearm was discharged and a man was shot. The man has been taken to the Royal London Hospital and is now said to be in a critical condition.

The Metropolitan Police said: ‘A police firearm was discharged and a man was injured. He has been taken by the London Ambulance Service to an east London hospital. A condition update awaits. No reports of any other persons injured.’

Forensics are now at the scene and a gun specialist has been called in from Oxford.
