Residents in Haringey often fail to attend free health checks.

A Haringey community association is offering residents of the borough access to NHS Health Checks some do not usually have.
New figures reveal just 8.3% of eligible Haringey residents have been offered an NHS Health Checkup since 2018, the lowest of any central and north London borough.
Health checks offered by the NHS for adults in England aged 40-74, are designed to spot early signs of diseases. These include stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and dementia.
The new statistics also showed Haringey residents regularly fail to attend health checks. Just one third of those offered an appointment attended.
The Turkish and Cypriot Community Association (TCCA) based in Haringey, took matters into its own hands, offering checks to local residents free of charge.
It’s chief executive, Erim Metto, said: “Some don’t like to take just one doctor’s word for it. Instead they like to gain a number of different opinions from different people.”
He added the TCCA hopes to reach out to minorities within the local community who otherwise would not have been seen.
Medical studies show NHS Health Checks can reduce premature deaths by up to 300 per year.
Dr Simon Tetlow of Kings College Hospital said: “It is a shame the numbers are so low. People are busy, GP’s are very busy too”.
I would still recommend anyone eligible goes for their NHS Health Check as it could save your life; if not now, one day in the future.”
The Government aims to use NHS Health Checks to help save 30,000 lives a year by 2020.
