Bob Hawke, former prime minister of Australia has died aged 89.

Mr Hawke led the country and his party from 1983 to 1991.

His contribution to public life helped shape modern Australia.

He oversaw passage of the Australia Act. It removed all remaining jurisdiction by the United Kingdom from Australia.

Furthermore, he remains the longest-serving prime Minister of Australia’s Labor Party.
