‘Unacceptably high’ number of children with autism in mental health hospitals
Too many children with learning disabilities and/or autism are being admitted to mental health hospitals in England, a new report says.

Research by the Children’s Commissioner for England found that the number is ‘unacceptably high’ and has doubled in the last four years.
The report also says that children are being held for far too long in these facilities and criticises the treatment they are receiving. Some families’ testimonies said how their children are being sedated, restrained and kept in isolation.
Matt Hancock says that he is determined to resolve this.
He acknowledges that case needs to be looked at individually and that children need to be given an advocate so they have additional support.

There are currently nearly 400,000 nurse vacancies – one in nine posts.
The Royal College of Nursing general secretary Dame Donna Kinnair says that the good will of nurses is being abused by politicians.
She also says ministers need to consider the financial and human cost of leaving jobs unfilled.
In a speech on Monday, Dame Donna Kinnair will demand tougher rules on safe staffing to be introduced such as the law which is about to be passed in Scotland.

Rajiv Grover, from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, says latest UK data show procedures have gone up 12% in a year – from 2,039 in 2017 to 2,286 in 2018.
He attributes this rise to women wanting to look good in trendy and tight gym wear.
He says that liposuction is not a risk-free procedure and that surgery should be used as a last resort.
