Positive Covid-19 cases in London increased slightly over last week, new figures show, as lockdown restrictions ease in the capital.
1,923 people in London tested positive in the week to Sunday 23rd – up from 1, 745 the week before.
According to the latest data, there were 242 Covid-19 patients in London hospitals. This compares with 245 patients a week earlier.
This is still significantly less than the number of hospitalisations during the second wave of the pandemic, in which up to 1,000 people were being admitted to hospital every day.
Two more people are also on ventilators in London hospitals than there were last week. Ventilators, which aid with breathing, are needed for the most severe cases of Covid-19. However, only 49 people in London are on ventilators.
More than 18,700 people have tested positive across the UK in the past seven days, representing an 18% increase on the week before.
NHS England data shows a total of 6,648,210 jabs were given to people in London between December 8 and May 26, including 4,211,860 first doses and 2,436,350 second doses.
A total of 52,689,008 Covid-19 vaccinations took place in England between December 8 and May 26, according to NHS England data, including first and second doses, which is a rise of 574,865 on the previous day.
