Danville Neville appeared in custody at Bromley Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

A 63-year-old man from Lewisham has been charged with the murder of two pensioners in east London – almost 28 years ago.

Danville Neil has also been charged with burglary.

Siblings Ann Castle and William Bryan were found dead in their flat in Clare Street, Bethnal Green, in August 1993. The murders allegedly took place after an apparent botched burglary.

Mrs Castle was aged 74 and her brother, Mr Bryan was aged 74.

A post-mortem examination conducted at the time gave Mrs Castle’s cause of death as ischaemic heart disease.

Her brother Mr Bryan’s post-mortem concluded he died of asphyxia (or suffocation) and ischaemic heart disease.

The Met Police say Neil was arrested in October 2020, after existing evidence was re-examined.

Neil will appear at the Old Bailey on Friday.
