Owen Paterson has quit as MP for North Shropshire amid the row over parliamentary lobbying rules.
In a statement announcing his decision, Mr Paterson said it was with “much sadness” he had decided to resign his position.

Mr Paterson added “I am totally innocent of what I have been accused of”.
He also maintained he “acted at all times in the interest of public health and safety.”
The shamed MP was found to have broken parliamentary rules by the cross-party Standards Committee.
He had repeatedly lobbied the government on behalf of two companies paying him over £100,000 a year.
On Wednesday, Conservative MPs voted to block Mr Paterson’s suspension, and to overhaul the disciplinary process for MPs.
After outcry from the opposition, Prime Minister Boris Johnson indicated the government would water-down the overhaul proposals.
