Rental bikes ditched outside of the lift add to the chaos

The southbound lift, near the Cutty Sark, which connects Greenwich to the Isle of Dogs, has been closed for over two weeks, with no clear date for reopening.
Greenwich council says the lift has ongoing issues following its refurbishment, which finished at the beginning of the year.
The council say they are awaiting parts from Germany and can’t confirm when the lift will be back in action until they receive them.
The foot tunnel is one of few ways to cross the river east of Tower Bridge, and is estimated to be used by about 4,000 people each day, according to the Visit Greenwich website.
Individuals particularly affected by the closures are those with disabilities, people with prams, and delivery cyclists.
The lift in question
Jacob Perkins, a City London News TV reporter spoke to Mike, a local resident with mobility issues who uses the tunnel regularly.
“It is very frustrating because I can’t really walk very well using my bike is everything to me. I have two options. I could wait for a river bus to take me to the other side or I could ride back to Alberton Road on the DLR the lifts on the DLR are too small for my bike.”
Many people using rental bikes to travel across London are leaving their bikes at the bottom of the lift, causing further issues.
The status of the lift can be monitored on X, formerly Twitter, via an account set up by disgruntled locals which posts updates. The account notifies followers if either, neither or both of the lifts are broken.
It can be reached @GreenwichLift.
