The London FA have recently released their new four year strategy focusing heavily on women’s football. They have pledged to introduce over 200 new casual games for women as well as increasing the number of women’s teams to almost 900.

According to figures from Deloitte the Women’s Super League has seen increased revenue amongst all clubs, however, many women have been finding it difficult to get into the game. Laura Latham is the club manager at Palm Metropolis FC and has explained that finding the money to create a new team has been an issue. She stated that ‘ quite simply I wanted to create the 11 a side team this year but it was too expensive’.

The Football Female Development manager at the FA Amanda Lewis stated that they’re focusing on ‘ensuring that more women and girls can take up the sport’.

Last weekend all of the women’s fixtures were played at the clubs main stadiums. London clubs Tottenham and Chelsea only managed to reach around half capacity, 38,000 and 20,000 respectively according to the clubs’ websites. Although this does show progress for the women’s game, it also shows that there is a long way to go. Furthermore, recent figures from Deloitte suggest that the losses in the WSL have reached £50.9 million.

James Green from Sky Sports has said that we need to ‘take a step back and realise that [the women’s game] is gonna take time to build’.
