Arsenal’s Kai Havertz will miss the rest of the season after a hamstring injury.

The club says the striker sustained the injury during the team’s Dubai training camp.

The 25-year-old is expected to have surgery and will continue his rehabilitation into the 2025-26 pre-season.

Havertz’s injury leaves the Gunners without a recognised forward, adding to their attacking woes.

The club lost star winger Bukayo Saka in early December to a torn hamstring, with their other young winger Gabriel Martinelli also suffering a hamstring injury away to Newcastle in their final match before the break.

Striker Gabriel Jesus has also had surgery on an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Arsenal said: “We can confirm that Kai Havertz has sustained a hamstring injury during a training session in Dubai last week.

“Subsequent assessments and specialist reviews have confirmed that the injury will require surgery, which will take place in the coming days.

“Everyone at the club is fully focused on supporting Kai to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible.”

The club was criticised by fans for failing to sign a striker in the January transfer window, with many believing it was necessary to maintain hopes winning a trophy and hunting down Premier League title rivals Liverpool.

The club were reported to have bid for Aston Villa and England striker Ollie Watkins, which was rejected.

Havertz had made 34 appearances this season and is the club’s top scorer with 15 goals and five assists.
