Nestled in the streets of East London, you can now find the world’s most popular Deliveroo order – the ‘Classic’ bagel from Papo’s Bagels in Dalston.
Set up in 2020, Papo’s is an independent, family-run business founded by husband-and-wife duo Georgia Fenwick-Gomez and Gabe Gomez.
They said that Papo’s started with a simple idea: a desire “to bring a taste of home (New York) to London with authentic bagels.”
Five years later, it seems safe to say they have achieved that goal, putting London bagels on the global stage.
Among their range of bagels, it is the Classic that has won the award. A Papo’s twist on the New York staple, it features smoked salmon, cream cheese, sliced red onion, tomato, and capers.
Papo’s Classic bagel was named the top order on Deliveroo (Deliveroo)
The enduring appeal of classics is something Papo’s recognises: “It’s a classic for a reason”, they told City News.
And it’s a sentiment echoed by the public.
Across Deliveroo’s latest top 100 report, staples like bagels, burgers, and sandwiches dominate orders.
“Don’t fix what’s not broken”, the delivery app proclaims: “The world is telling us that a simple, portable and triple-layered format is loved.”
Reflecting on the secrets of their success in a very competitive culinary market, Georgia and Gabe emphasise the importance of community: “The support of our local communities has definitely been instrumental in our growth – we love our community and are very embedded in it.”
