Mila Boersma for City News
This weeks Digital Editor Mila Boersma

Today, City News are doing what it seems some other newsrooms are scared of, we’re experimenting with A.I.

Instead of fearing artificial intelligence’s grip on our future- this week, we’re seeing it as a colleague and using it to support our journalism.

A 2025 Reuters AI Report found a significant ‘comfort gap’ exists between AI- and human-led news production, with only 12% of respondents comfortable with fully AI-generated news.

Each member of our team has tested a different application, from video creation, script formatting to fact checking. We’re experimenting with what works, what doesn’t, and if we could see ourselves incorporating it into our reporting.

We report for you, the audience. We want to see what you enjoyed, if you spotted any A.I. generated images, and if it made you trust our reporting any more, or less. Your comments and feedback are welcomed throughout our digital coverage all day, and beyond.

So this week, we’ve got stuck in and made AI our intern, and like any intern, we’re not fully committed just yet. We’re still personally factchecking each and every statistic, and verifying our content with our very human team.

Truth is the backbone of what we do here at City News, and we will continue to champion investigative, fact-checked reporting against the ever changing digital news landscape.
