150 firefighters are tackling a warehouse fire in Southall. Large plumes of smoke are visible across West London.

Initial reports of a fire were received at 8.55 am, according to the London Fire Brigade, and their control officers have taken over 60 calls since then.

Though the cause of the fire is not yet known, it is believed that there may be fireworks stored inside the west London warehouse that is presently still engulfed in flames.

The blaze is being battled by around 150 firefighters and 25 fire engines as the two-storey structure remains alight.

London Fire Brigade’s assistant commissioner Pat Goulbourne said, “A major incident has been declared as firefighters tackle the fire on Bridge Street, Southall,”.

The LFB also added that around three-quarters of the building is currently alight and a nearby school and block of flats have been evacuated as a safety precaution, the LFB added.

Fire crews from Southall, Heston, Ealing and other nearby stations are responding to the incident, Ms Goulbourne announced, “All firefighters have withdrawn to a safe distance and are now fighting the fire from a greater distance to ensure crew safety,”.

Firefighters are continuing to work hard to bring the blaze under control, but due to the site’s complex nature and the size of the fire, it is likely that crews will be fighting the fire throughout the day.

City News Reporter Sarah Lewis has been reporting live:

“Residents said there were huge explosions this morning, followed by lots of smoke and flames coming from a group of buildings and storage areas. It is early evening, and the flames and smoke are still very visible.

“A lot of the residents we spoke to who had been evacuated were just really worried about their homes… There are still a lot of firefighters down here and a lot of people who still can’t get into their homes, waiting in the cold. We heard some explosions and saw lots of smoke. There is a lot of confusion here still”

Plumes of smoke are visible across west London, and those living in the immediate area have been instructed to keep doors and windows shut.

It is expected that traffic in the local area will be heavily impacted, and the area should be avoided if possible.
