A paedophile who used his job as a nursery worker to sexually abuse young children in his care over several years has been jailed for 18 years.

Vincent Chan, of Finchley, North London, was sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court after pleading guilty to 56 charges including sexual assault by penetration, sexual assault by touching and making indecent images of children.

These crimes were committed over the course of 13 years working as the 45-year-old nursery worker at the Bright Horizons nursery in West Hampstead, North London.

This convicted predator worked at the nursery for 10 years starting in 2007.

While employed at the nursery, Chan took upskirt images of one girl and superimposed his face onto pornographic images in addition to having at least 25,000 downloaded indecent images of children.

Passing sentence, Judge John Dodd KC said Chan had a “deep-seated sexual obsession, primarily with young children”.

“You are therefore ‘dangerous’ as that term is understood in the criminal justice context,” he says.

Chan was sitting staring towards the ground as details of his crime were read aloud in court, with parents of some of the victims sitting in the gallery.

Judge Dodd also ruled that Chan will serve an additional eight years on extended licence after serving his 18-year sentence.
