Businesses have struggled since floods hit Islington.

A burst Thames Water pipe in North London caused serious floods on a stretch of 350 meters of Caledonian Road, last Thursday. The fire brigade had to rescue people from their office using inflatable boats.

Although the flood has gone down, they have caused some serious disruption to businesses.

Alibaba Pound Saver is also a shop that has been affected by the flood.

The basement ‘was full of water, like one meter’

He said he saw the rising water outside and then went down to the basement and saw nothing.

But after a few minutes the basement ‘was full of water, like one meter’.

He has traditional Indian clothes in the basement, which a lot of were destroyed. He thinks he has lost around £50,000 of stock.

He said Thames Water will have to pay, as it is a ‘huge loss of money’.

Thames Water declined to comment.

Amanuel Terefework’s family’s business, Marathon restaurant, has also been affected.

Amanuel’s family’s restaurant has suffered financial loss

Water came in through their restaurant’s basement. The electricity was turned off for safety reasons, leaving seven fridges, filled with stock, to defrost.

The family’s car, which was used to transport stock, was parked outside when the road was flooded. The car was ruined and has now been written off.

Amanuel has said they haven’t been able to pay staff members.

The business has been closed since the floods. Amanuel thinks they might reopen on the 8th of March but he is not sure if this will happen.

Amanuel received a letter from the council yesterday providing them with information on where to get insurance claims.

Sedgwick, the insurance provide Thames water uses, spoke to Amanuel.

The London Mayor ranks flooding as a high risk to the capital.

A similar flood in Herne Hill in 2013, followed a burst water main. Several business collapsed, as a result of the flood, and there was a long battle with Thames Water over compensation.
