Resident doctors to strike for six days in England next month.
British Medical Association (BMA) says action will be taking place due to the government not doing enough to address pay claims and job shortages concerns.
The talks have been going on for more than two months.
The walkout will take place from the 7th of April to the 13th of April.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting, said the news of the walkout was “Deeply disappointing”.
The talks broke down as doctors were given 3.5% pay rise this year. The union argues that this pay rise isn’t enough for resident doctors.
Mr Streeting also stated that resident doctors have been given a pay rise of 4.9%, with new graduates earning £12,000 more than they did four years ago.
He urges BMA to reconsider the strike and gives the Union until next Thursday, or the money that has been set aside for the deal will be scrapped.
Mr Streeting told the Commons, “The BMA has pointed to the war in Iran as a reason to reject the deal”.
“Planning on the basis of a prolonged conflict” in Iran, the government will not be able to offer more to resident doctors in a future deal.
The walkout plans to go ahead starting 07:00 on 7th April until 07:00 on 13th April.
