The Brittania Leisure Centre in Hackney has caused controversy having been given the go-ahead for a £30,000 revamp, despite being previously classified for demolition.
The refurbishment plans include a new reception, gym, and fitness studio for spinning classes. However the Learning trust has strongly objected, saying that plans had already been made to use the site for a future secondary school, as well as new flats and leisure centre. Furthermore, the space is also one of four sites planned to contain a ventilation site for the new Crossrail 2.
