Annual charity event in aid of Richard House Hospice returns to the City.
The Penguin Waddle kicks off tonight as hundreds of people prepare to waddle across the City dressed as penguins.
The unique event is in support of East London’s Children’s Hospice and aims to raise the vital funds needed to keep the charity going.
Richard House Hospice is a purpose built hospice providing clinical care for children across London, including those from Hackney and the City.
Since opening in 2000, the hospice is grown dramatically and now help around 300 children and their families in battles against debilitating diseases. The charity offers residential care, therapy and bereavement support.
However, the hospice relies on the generosity of the public and needs to raise £2 million a year in voluntary donations. Meaning that The Penguin Waddle is a key event in raising these funds.
Last year the Penguin Waddle beat the Guinness World Record for the most people dressed as penguins gathered in one place, as 325 people waddled through London. Tom Murtagh, Communications and Events manager, hopes to beat the record again tonight and keep raising money for the charity.
