Volunteer Centre Hackney is running an initiative in Dalston to pair potential volunteers with organisations.
In matching volunteers with over 350 community groups across Hackney, they hope to increase ‘community spirit’ in Hackney, and also claim that volunteering can help hone soft skills, which will lead to more job opportunities for unemployed volunteers.
Whilst many volunteers spoke of the positive outcomes of donating their time to various sources, one volunteer reported how unpaid labour had left him with little time to look for paid jobs, and yet due to the responsibilities of his unpaid role he felt unable to leave.
